Man Utd 0-0 Villarreal: Golden Boy Ronaldo Makes Comeback!

Line up:

GK: VDSRB: Neville
CB: Ferdinand
CB: Evans
LB: Evra
RM: Nani
CM: Fletcher
CM: Hargreaves
LM: Park
ST: Rooney
ST: Tevez

Subs: Foster, O’Shea, Vidic, Brown, Giggs, Ronaldo, Anderson

Yet another goalless draw against Villarreal and Manchester United's 14 match winning streak is over. United did well, team movement and passing was good but lacked that sharpness in finishing (same old story). Rio missed a sitter. Tevej's painfully hopeless shot was cleared off the line. But United played much better and dominated the game.

There were few surprises in the line up. Berbatov was not picked up. Evens got his first run. Neville was selected ahead of Brown. Evans looked good and he almost scored yesterday. His header hit the post. Anyway can't say much about defense as it was hardly tested. Evra had a good game but he is one awful crosser of the ball. Neville needs to retire. He looks clueless on the ball. His crosses are as good as Anderson's shots on target... Rio was rock solid.

Rooney was much better yesterday but couldn't stop himself wandering around the whole bloody pitch. Somebody gotta tell him that he is a goddamn striker, not a right back! Sometimes he was found defending at right back's position.

Park looked good. He is way better than Giggs at the moment. Hargreaves was OK but made an awful lot of hopeless crosses that couldn't even beat the first man in the box. Nani was also quite good, but he is decision making very very poor. I think he needs to play more selfless. He always looks to beat the defenders. He needs to understand that he is no Ronaldo. He is more like Beckham. He should model his game around Beckham, not Ronaldo. Anyway he is young, he will learn, hopefully. He sent some beautiful crosses into the box but our midgets couldn't even won the ball. Fletcher was a non entity. I just couldn't notice him in the match.

Tevej was frustrating to watch. His passes are always to the wrong player! He is always looking to score. Needs to be a bit selfless. Anderson was the worst player of the match. Does he really know how to kick the ball!

Surprisingly, Ronaldo got the warm reception from the crowd, even after his summer long Will-He, Won't-He transfer saga. This boy works as catalyst for United. Once he was on the pitch, United looked more threatening and created more chances. He brings life to the United attack. Thank god he is back.

And what to say about the referees! Seems they were just back from the asylum. Referee was terrible and the linesmen were blind. They couldn't notice two fouls made in the box on Park. I mean what does United have to do to have a penalty awarded in their favor?? May be one of the players need to get murdered in the box... :P
Referees like this should be relegated to league two.

Love the site....I am also a football fan. I am just glad to meet someone who actually calls this sport football and not soccer.

The movie "Goal" is a fabulous perspective of the sport. A kid from Mexico dreams of stardom and goes through a series of memorable experiences to get a try out with the team called Newcastle United. Of course, that leads to many memorable twists and turns which have also resulted in popular movie sequels. Differt ways to become a sports fan!
